KNIGHTLY NEWS
JUNE 2020

A YEAR FOR THE BOOKS

CRISTY HAPP
Nerge PTA President 2019-2021

As the school year comes to an end, I look back at all the great things our children were able to experience this year at Nerge thanks to the support of the Nerge PTA. Once again, we kicked off the school year with our Back to school Picnic. Children and their families got to see their friends and reminisce on their summer experiences. In September, they put their sneakers on and ran a few laps around the field to get some exercise at our Annual Fun Run. In October, they got to visit our Fall Book Fair and buy books to spark their imagination and creativity. They also enjoyed a spooktacular time during their Halloween classroom parties and activities. Not to mention all the fun that was had while dancing the night away at the Halloween Dance!

2019 ended with a visit from Santa himself at our Annual Breakfast with Santa event. Winter brought us many cold and snowy days, but our children had a blast at their Valentine’s Day classroom parties. Students enjoyed watching and participating in assemblies like the Know-it-Alls and the ProKids Show and much fun was had with families and friends at our Annual Family Fun Fair.

This year has been one for the books! When I look back years from now, I will always remember the 2019-2020 school year. However, not for the reasons most might think. Yes, we had a world pandemic during this school year but what I will remember most is how amazingly resilient and dedicated our teachers, staff, parents and students were during these difficult times. How we all came together even though we were apart and rose to the challenge. That is what I will remember, and I hope you will too!

May 28th marked the end of the 2019-2020 school year. We would like to acknowledge our 6th graders. They have been in elementary school for 7 years! Transitioning to junior high school is a significant milestone for each one of them. We congratulate our 6th Grade Class of 2020 for their remarkable achievement! We wish them good luck at Mead (or Keller) Jr. High next year and in their future!

Throughout the school year, our children enjoyed having a slice of pizza on Mondays and a variety of hot lunches on Fridays. All these wonderful programs and activities our children were able to experience this year could not have been possible without the help of our parent volunteers. A HUGE THANKS to our all our volunteers, teachers and administrators, for an incredible 2019-2020 school year!!

Please consider chairing or becoming part of a committee for the 2020-2021 school year. Recruit a group of friends and share the responsibilities or meet new friends while taking on a new role. Many of these committees have responsibilities that can be done at your own schedule and much of the work can be done from the comfort of your own home.

It is only with the collaboration of parent volunteers that we can continue to provide our children with all these programs and events that enhance their educational experience and create lasting memories. Research shows that children perform better when parents are engaged in their education both at home and at school. By volunteering, your children will see first-hand the importance you place on education and creating positive school experiences for them.

Please make time to volunteer! Email Cristy Happ by June 15, 2020 if you are interested in chairing or assisting on a committee. The decision on what programs will remain for the 2020-2021 school year will be made over the summer based on volunteers.

If you cannot commit to chairing or being part of a committee, please commit to volunteering at least once during the school year. Sign-ups for volunteer opportunities for 2020-2021 school year will be available in August. We need volunteers for many events and offer opportunities that fit all schedules.

Please scroll down below for all our available Committee Chair opportunities.

I invite you to visit our website regularly for up-to-the-minute Nerge PTA news and important information. Follow us on social media for updates and reminders!  Don't forget to download our Membership Toolkit App too!

UNLESS SOMEONE LIKE YOU CARES A WHOLE AWFUL LOT, NOTHING IS GOING TO GET DONE. IT IS NOT! – Dr. Seuss

The Nerge PTA sponsors many different school programs and events throughout the year. Most of these programs and events are organized by the wonderful parent volunteers that dedicate their time to manage these committees. Many of the current committee chairs have children that will be aging out of Nerge this June and we need help filling these vacancies to continue our high level
of offerings.

The Nerge PTA is asking for your help! Programs such as Hot Lunch, Fun Foods, Yearbook, Book Fairs and more are at risk of disappearing for the 2020-2021 school year if we don’t have the volunteers to run them. We need more parent involvement to ensure these programs and events continue for all our children.

If we do not have volunteers to run these committees, the Nerge PTA also loses funds that are allocated towards many school and PTA sponsored services. School clubs, Birthday Books, cultural arts performances, assignment notebooks and folders, Field Day, Earth Day, Fun Fair, Nerge Night Hike and grade level productions are some of the PTA sponsored services that are at risk.
